This is a website design client review from Derek Dueker, the owner of the Show My Scars Podcast, a mental health podcast, who has his home base in the area. 2oddballs Creative created his website and logo. This writing is based on his experience with us and the article was his idea, not ours.

If you are looking at digital marketers around the Springfield, MO area for a company to do your website design from scratch or to redesign your current website, I highly recommend 2oddballs Creative. An obvious disclaimer if you begin digging into my background: I know Gabe and Kylie, the co-owners of 2oddballs personally. However, my marketing experience pre-dates my relationship with them. I have several years of SEO and marketing experience along with several more years of journalism and content production.

Without hesitation, I recommend the Oddballs to everyone I meet needing website development. And here’s why:

My website design client review for 2oddballs Creative

For about a decade now, I have had the idea to produce content for myself. I had the itch long before my time as a sports writer came to a close but after that? I felt purposeless.

I had mentioned to Gabe and Kylie my desire to launch a mental health podcast of sorts and wanted to have a website from which to build my platform. They, of course, extended an offer for a helping hand. But I had limited funds and knew I couldn’t expect to see much of a return from my small business in its infant stages. Especially a content production business which requires lots of expensive equipment to start.

They offered a solution: A one-page website to start. It would have all of the plugins and gizmos I needed: A podcast player, a shop for merch, and a form for people to submit story ideas or advertising questions.

It was a low-cost solution to begin my longstanding dream! So, what was the process like? I lay out my website design client review below.

Website design process with 2oddballs Creative

I, like many who are honest with themselves, don’t exactly have an eye for design. I know what I like when I see it, but I can’t draw it out or provide the correct lingo. The oddballs came prepared for this!

They told me to scour the interwebs and find some podcast websites that I liked, write down what specifically I liked about the design, and give them some colors I like and want associated with my brand.

I have a little more marketing wherewithal than the next person so I know how to spot good user interface elements so I would probably recommend brushing up on that. The oddballs are experts on this but you should at least have a hypotheses on how your prospective clients would interact with websites in your industry and what would reduce friction on the way to them performing your desired action for them on your site.

Once I had completed these tasks and had a basic wish list for my website, they briefed me on what was to come next. The following graphic is what they send website design clients so we know what to expect:

This keeps everyone on the same page as they are building out your website.

Throughout the entire process I had an idea how far along they were. I never felt like they were pushing me to accept the changes they suggested. I always felt like I had the final say. However, I mostly accepted their changes because…well…they made sense and Kylie and Amy (a graphic designer and web dev for the Oddballs) are the experts.

At each stopping point Kylie called me up or sat down with me to talk about what had been done since we last spoke and why. At the end of our meetings, she’d ask if I was happy with the progress or if I wanted something tweaked before we moved to the next step.

In conclusion

Obviously, if this was my idea I must have a glowing website design client review. The image I had in my head of the website I wanted for my mental health podcast? It wasn’t nearly as cool as what Kylie and Co. came up with. I am so proud to give out my URL because I know they’ll catch my vibe as soon as they land on my site.

Further, like I said I have former marketing experience. I used to write web copy and provide SEO services at a different agency. 2oddballs’ designs are cooler (not a measurable metric but still true). They’re also more affordable than most other marketing agencies in the area.

So, if you’re at the point you need a website (which is earlier on than most business owners believe or realize) I highly recommend you at least get a quote from them and hear what they have in mind for you. They don’t sell you crap you don’t need. They talk to you with respect. They’re the sweetest people ever.

I stand on my word and promise every word I’ve written here is true. I offered to do this blog to help spread the word about their business and, selfishly, mine. Speaking of which, if you listen to podcasts I ask you give mine a listen. Working on your mental health is vital as a small business owner whether you have any kind of disorder or not. I’ve talked about how to have difficult conversations which is paramount in business. I’ve also talked about parenting, media literacy, and true self care. So, it’s about mental health but there’s a wide scope of topics within it I cover on a more granular level.

If that’s not your jam, I hope I at least helped you understand better what you might get into if you go with 2oddballs Creative for your web design!
