For years now, SEO blogging has been championed as one of the most impactful activities you can engage in to optimize your website for search engines. But does it still work?
As you can probably guess, my answer is yes. But I can prove it to you.
SEO blogging still works even in 2025
My first example to prove that SEO blog writing is still relevant even today is a blog I wrote for a garage door company just a few months ago. It was an article meant for customer service and to position them as local experts. However, those things still matter for SEO.
The article was titled “5 reasons to not crack your garage door in the summer” and I wrote it back in July 2024. The other day I was checking on what blogs I wrote this last year were making an impact and this was one of them that ended up ranking in the top 10 as you can see below.

Yes, it is a low-volume keyword and they currently rank No. 6. However, ranking for these lower volume or less competitive keywords helps build your authority and will make ranking for more competitive keywords easier down the road.
Want to see an SEO blog topic that’s closer to the bottom of the sales funnel? In August of 2024 I wrote a blog titled “How to buy cheap old houses” for a real estate agent client of ours. And, yes, I see in the screenshot below that the top keyword is a typo. However, I double checked to make sure it ranked No. 5 for “How to buy cheap old houses” and it did.

So, as you can see, SEO blogging is still relevant and effective. Even if your SEO blogs don’t rank high, if you are linking your pillar content correctly, you’ll see those pages climbing in rank. Further, potential clients who find valuable content on your website will be more apt to convert.
How SEO blogging helps with conversions
How, exactly, does SEO blog writing help convert website visitors? Well, it starts with increasing website traffic. High-quality blog content attracts more visitors through organic search, social media sharing, and backlinks, exposing your brand to a larger audience.
However, it also:
- Positions you as a thought leader in your industry, making visitors more likely to trust your brand and consider your products or services
- Allows you to engage with your readers through comments, social media interactions, and email marketing, fostering a stronger relationship and loyalty
- You can blog on topics that address specific pain points and questions your target audience has, providing valuable information that directly relates to their needs
- Within your blog posts, you can strategically include clear calls-to-action (CTAs) that encourage visitors to take the next step, like signing up for a newsletter, downloading a free guide, or making a purchase
Doesn’t AI render SEO blogs useless?
As you’ve probably experienced in your own queries, Google launched AI Overviews in May 2024 which provides an answer to some searches at the top of the results page. So, wouldn’t that make blogging pointless?
No. Although this results in what is known in SEO circles as a zero-click search (a user’s search on Google ends without clicking on any organic results) it does not concern me.
Why? This SEO consultant said it best:

As I’m sure is the same for you, there are a ton of things I search Google for in which I simply want an answer in that moment. That doesn’t mean I won’t be searching for something in the future in which I want to learn about it first and possibly make a purchase based on that education later.
That is what SEO blogging provides when done correctly. And people looking to do the same are who you are targeting with your SEO blogs.
To be successful doing so, you’ll need quality content that convinces readers you’re an authority on the subject and proves your experience. Finding topics to write takes some skill, deep thinking, and insight provided by SEO tools. You might be tempted to use an AI to write your blogs to save time and effort. However, as we wrote recently, it’s not advisable to use an AI to write a blog all on its own as Google has confirmed they’ll exclude AI-generated blogs from its search results that seem like clickbait. Even if it isn’t necessarily clickbait, most AI-generated blogs are simply repeating content it finds by searching the web. So, it’s not high-quality content which Google will recognize either on its own or through your readers’ behavior.
Why hire an SEO blogging expert from 2oddballs Creative?
As we’ve hopefully explained here, SEO blogging isn’t simply keyword plugging or just brain dumping on a page. It needs to be helpful, well-written, and optimized for search. Our in-house SEOs research both the topics that would best serve your business and identify the valuable keywords it needs to include. Then, we write the article as if we were writing it for a friend or family member who would be looking for information on the topic. We also follow Google’s rules to help prevent any penalties that can affect more than simply the article in question.
