Business owners have been getting preached at for years now that video content is king when it comes to marketing. However, it can be hard to decide what types of video content to make to promote your business. What are the most important videos to make? What actually makes an impact? If you’ve been procrastinating and putting off video production because you don’t understand how video can help your business or you don’t know what to film – read on.
What types of video content should you make for your business?
Good video content for businesses tells the story of your business, amplifies your current marketing efforts, and increases engagement. As long as your video accomplishes these three things, it’s valuable content. However, the following types of video are always good to have.
Ads
The most common type of video for businesses. You likely didn’t need me to tell you this is a type of video that could help but you may not have been thinking that if you have a video production partner on standby, you can create a video ad for fairly cheap, promote it on social media, and avoid overpaying for a TV spot that may or may not reach your intended audience.
The content of a video ad can go in a number of directions. You can be announcing a new product or service, a limited-time offer, or you can showcase customer testimonials.
Explainer videos
Explainer, demonstration, tutorial, or instructional videos…whatever you want to call them…speak directly to customer who have purchased your product/service or are considering doing so. These types of videos can improve conversions, customer loyalty, reduce customer service costs, and separate yourself from your competition.
This video content is great for social media but is perfect for the product/service page on your website.
Expert interview videos
If you have a good relationship with an industry expert or think you could get them to provide an endorsement of your product or service, this makes incredible video content. Because many people identify experts as trustworthy sources, they’re more likely to purchase a product that has a ringing endorsement from an industry expert.
During the video interview you should ask:
- What made you look for the product/service we offer?
- Why did you choose our brand?
- What was the experience like using our product/service?
- Would you recommend us to a friend? Why?
Product review video
If you’ve received a glowing review from a customer, reach out to see if they’d be interested in doing a review on video. If necessary, you can offer them a future discount or some other type of reward for offering their assistance. Product review videos are incredibly effective in encouraging a purchasing decision when placed on your product/service pages on your website! You can also use them as part of an advertisement and as social media content.
Use the same questions we laid out above for the expert interview video.
Social media videos
No, we’re not telling you to do the latest viral craze. The key to creating successful social media videos is understanding what platform your target audience is on and what type of content works best on that platform.
For example, if we turned this blog into a video for different social media platforms here’s how we’d do it:
- For TikTok, we’d likely just list the types of videos without much of an explanation, trying to keep it short
- For YouTube or LinkedIn, we’d elaborate and share statistics, not worrying too much about length
Brand videos
Isn’t this the same thing as a product video? NO.
The purpose of a brand video is to help the audience develop an idea or emotional association with your brand. It’s more about the lifestyle, values, and motivations of your brand than the specific products or service you’re selling.
Tell the story of how your brand came to be, how your personality of you or your team bleeds into the business, what your core values are and how you live by them, etc.
Industry-related content
If you have the experience and track record to back you up, you could become something of an expert in your industry by becoming a thought leader in the space and share your perspective on industry news and trends.
Vlog-style videos
Showcase your brand in action! Behind-the-scenes, meet-the-team, and day-in-the-life video content does well. Do you work with another business a lot? Explain how and why you’ve partnered together. There’s a lot of different topics you could do videos on here.
